“Our client was a young, growing family needing more space without relocating. More space for mum and dad entertaining guests & additional space for the kids to use.
Elite Additions added a master bedroom with ensuite by expanding the upper level of the home, remodelled the existing rooms downstairs to be converted into a rumpus room to entertain the kids. An additional area focused around relaxing/entertaining guests in an outdoor alfresco/dining space which overlooks the local bushland.”
Challenges
“The current abode is located in the northern suburbs of Sydney backing onto the stunning Berowra Waters. As a consequence, the property is categorised as being within a Flame Zone so non-traditional materials need to be used for parts of the home extension/remodelling.
As the home is in a flame zone, aluminium decking seemed like the best option as it was the highest quality alternative to regular hardwood decking.”
Solutions
“After doing some research, we came across an aluminium decking alternative which seemed to be the perfect flame-zone solution for our clients’ project. We spoke with NexGEN Decking and they recommended the BAL-FZ rated Aluminium DryDeck 2.0 product for the deck & screening.
The product is more expensive than traditional hardwoods out there but we were limited as to what we could build with due to the requirements of the location. The installation was easy and simple and NexGEN were a pleasure to deal with throughout the entire process.”

“When I decided to build a highset deck, I did a lot of research on the different types of flooring. While I love timber, I did not want the work or expense of maintaining a timber deck. Many of the composite decking materials fade or scratch or don’t work well on an area that has both shade and sun at different times of the day.
Other materials look fake and just like plastic. When I phoned Roxanne at NexGEN Brisbane to find out more about their product, she was very knowledgeable and helpful and offered to send me out a sample pack, which arrived within a couple of days. This gave me the opportunity to hold the samples up against the house paint colour to get the best match. Roxanne also worked with my builder to ensure the correct quantities of materials and fixtures and to have steps built in the NexGEN materials whilst meeting engineering standards.
As such, the entire deck only requires a sweep and occasional mop – so virtually no maintenance. I absolutely LOVE my deck. It looks fabulous and exceeded my expectations! You have to look very closely to check it isn’t real timber, as it has the variation in colour and contour, like actual timber. I would totally recommend NexGEN both as a company and product.”

“Thanks so much to Matt and Roxanne for all their help putting this DIY project together. The service and support from them was outstanding.
We chose the NexGEN Jarrah composite boards, and installed them over the DeckCell subframe system. We sent Roxanne a sketch of what we had in mind and she quoted us for everything we needed, including all the fixings. This was then all supplied in a single delivery, exactly when we were told it would be.
Installing the decking ourselves was the biggest challenge we set ourselves in the transformation of our backyard, and considering this was our first time doing this, it was pretty straight forward. It did highlight the importance of good ground preparation prior to laying the decking, but once we got that sorted, the decking itself came up a treat.
The DeckCell subframe saved us an enormous amount of work. Because we were installing the decking at ground level around the pool, to install standard joist supports would have meant digging out 300-400mm, which would have also meant rethinking drainage levels etc. If I had my time again I think I would have used the 50mm Deck Cell instead of the 30mm DeckCell, simply because we also installed deck lights in the boards and this would have given us a little more room underneath to feed the wiring throughThe finished product is exactly what we had dreamt of – thank you so much guys.”

I met Roxanne at the Brisbane home show, I really like the Nexgen product as I was looking for a deck that is low maintenance and termite free.
My house was still under construction, but I booked an appointment with Roxanne and Jim so they could give me some ideas about the deck, the deck changed three times because of covenant and council regulations, but Roxanne was always very helpful.
Jim did the steel frame, and then completed by adding the Acorn Nexgen slippers, the quality is amazing and looks fantastic, and also very affordable as you do not have to do any maintenance (no oil, no sanding, no sealing).
If you want your deck to look like a million bucks I really recommend Roxanne and Jim Hopper.
It is very hard to find people like you guys that do things professionally and with high standards, so if you need anything else let me know, I’m happy to help.

When first invited to consult on this project we were staggered at how badly the existing spotted gum timber had failed. Over a little as 7 years it had absorbed so much moisture it had cupped and twisted to a point where their son couldn’t even ride his bike over some areas.
This decking sits a mere 120mm above a concrete floor which has no ventilation and a waterproof membrane so after rain the water just sits and rots the underside of the decking.
Coupled with this water ingress our client spends considerable time living overseas so maintaining the decking is not a priority.
As expected the demand was for a decking product that would A) not require maintenance and B) handle the presence of moisture.
The capped composite will not allow the absorption of water and has a set 5mm spacing which allows permanent air flow to the underside of the decking.
With a 25 year warranty our client now has the confidence to head overseas knowing upon his return the decking will always be in excellent condition”

“The deck itself is 5 metres x 7 metres and as you can see from the photo’s it was a very difficult construction. I wanted a structure virtually maintenance free hence the unpainted hot dipped galvanized steel structure, COLORBOND(R) insulated panel roof, stainless steel stranded wire balustrade and NexGEN Decking. In fact the only timber used was for the two steps and the top handrail, which I might add is already badly faded after only twelve months. By contrast the Rosewood NexGEN decking looks as good as the day it was installed. I did a lot of research into timber decking substitutes before settling on the NexGEN product, the main reasons being the fully enclosed hard wearing Sirlon coating (allowing for boards to be turned over if necessary); the concealed fastening system which gives the finished deck nice clean lines; the available board width; and finally the excellent service and follow-up by the NexGEN agent.
I am extremely happy with the outcome of this project which was a significant investment to maximize the Gold Coast views from the back of our block”

My partner, Beryl, and I recently moved into our newly built house at Redland Bay. As part of our build, we also put in a 9 x 3 metre pool, around which we were going to place paving stones, pebbles and concrete. That is, until we saw NextGEN decking at Home Ideas Centre in Brisbane. We were immediately taken with the look and feel of the product. And when we heard about it’s low maintenance (“never warps, rots and is splinter free”), not to mention the 25 year warranty, we were sold.
Installation was easy, especially considering that we employed Jim, ably assisted by Roxanne, to do all the work. Apart from being two of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet, their work ethics and attention to detail are second to none. The proof of this is in the finished product. Also, having a gas hot water system in the house, we have two large gas bottles sitting up against the house around which Jim cut the deck. Jim and Roxanne suggested that they could also build a box around the gas bottles, effectively hiding them from view, by using any left over decking. We agreed and the result looks amazing.
We are entirely delighted and happy with the finished job. The decking looks great and adds to the overall effectiveness of our pool/entertainment area. From the equally spaced pieces of the decking to the metal trim, it is all a professional finish that we are proud to show off to any visitors to our home. We have no hesitation in recommending the NextGEN product or the services of Jim and Roxanne.

We had just built a new home and wanted to put a deck around our pool. I have previously had timber decking around pools which resulted in high maintenance. When I came across the NexGEN product it seemed to be the ideal solution with its no maintenance requirement and 25year warranty, it seemed a logical choice. Here are some photos of our renewed deck – it looks fantastic and makes the deck area look twice as big as it did before. The material is very comfortable to feel and walk on, and looks much “cleaner” than the original timber deck. When oiled, the old deck looked almost black, even though there was no stain in the oil. The timber grain is realistic and adds texture when walking. The Fiberon seems to grip better when wet – the opposite to what we were expecting, and a pleasant surprise. Our main concern was that the product would be too slippery in the rain.

“I am not usually one to write testimonials, but in this particular case I felt that I absolutely needed to give recognition to the wonderful service that I received from Roxanne and Jim at NexGEN decking.
I started off by sending an inquiry to Roxanne regarding additional information and pricing on the NexGEN decking product. She promptly responded to my email, and I decided that I was happy with the product and price, so I paid a small deposit to get things started. But unfortunately through a series of unfavourable personal events we had to continually push back the installation of our decking (this went on for almost 12 months!). During this time Roxanne was very understanding, a pleasure to deal with, and kept in regular contact to see how things were going. Communication was excellent throughout, and we were in no way pressured to speed things up or make any additional payments during those 12 months.
We finally confirmed an installation date and Jim arrived on time and worked extremely hard and efficiently. After spending 2 days installing the deck we discovered a problem caused by a previous landscaping mishap. Though this was in no way Jim’s fault, he and Roxanne offered to pull up the decking, fix the problem, then relay it all free of charge. I am a tradesperson myself and this is absolutely unheard of and came as a very big shock. Jim has the upmost pride in his work and was not happy until everything was perfect. I cannot praise him enough for the time and effort he put into our deck and we are absolutely over the moon with how everything turned out.
The NexGEN decking itself is also a very impressive product. I am very particular and do my research on everything before I commit to buying it. I compared NexGEN to a lot of other decking on the market before making my decision. I am very happy with the quality and appearance of the decking boards, they look fantastic and the hidden screw fastening system was a big selling point, along with the no maintenance hassle free design.

In total our customer ordered over 75m2 of our Aspen capped composite decking with concealed fixings and screws. I heard of NexGEN decking through the Sydney Home Show and was impressed by the environmentally friendly product. I had never heard of this kind of deck and it’s made from 60% hardwood and 40% plastics. The plastics came from all sorts of products like car bumper bars and computer housings! I was informed that even the manufacturing involved recycling water used in the process. The end result is a deck that never needs sanding or oiling and can just be washed off with water! It comes with a long warranty. I decided to go ahead with the product and got a deck using the Ipe colour and it looks fantastic! It went under a pine tree where a spa will sit which will make it so much easier to keep clean. The idea I don’t have to move it to get deck oiled etc is a huge bonus. You can’t tell when looking at it that its not all wood or a combined product until you get right up close to it and touch it as it obviously has a little different feel. It was installed by Number 1 decks and they did an absolutely fantastic and professional job. To add this kind of decking is a little more expensive (about 10%), but then you never have to spend a cent on sanding and oiling again and honestly I felt good about supporting this product. There are only a few options in colours, and it would be good in the future to perhaps have a few more choices. For me, I felt it was important to support a recycled deck like this, and be part of a company trying to reduce the depletion of our world’s resources, and re use things like plastics that otherwise will end up in the ground and never be broken down. Having said that, I definitely didn’t want to compromise on quality or look! …and I am couldn’t be happier with the result! I highly recommend NexGEN Decking”

Dan visited our stand at the 2014 Brisbane Home Show. He had an existing concrete area that he wanted to deck but also wanted to extend out further over the back yard. His challenge was to find a sub-frame system that would go over the concrete, which was not timber and would then flow onto the new timber frame extension.
Our DIY Deckcell Sub-frame was perfect for Dan’s project.
The DIY Deckcell was used on the concrete, and the frame extension was then built out over the backyard at the same level. Once he completed the sub-frame, Dan installed NexGEN Rosewood capped composite decking.
As you can see, you can’t notice there are two different frame systems underneath.

Dan found our waterproof Aluminium DryDeck online and contacted Bryan in our WA office. He had already found a guy (Franco) who installed decks and was just in search for the perfect product.
Dan chose the Artisan Clay colour for his aluminium DryDeck as a matching contrast to the sandstone brickwork on the house. The marine grade aluminium DryDeck is ideal in a near salt water environment. The DryDeck also provided an easy lightweight alternative to an elevated concrete slab to ensure the area underneath is 100% waterproof.
The DryDeck created a large waterproof storage area beneath the deck. This is ideal for Dan and his family to store all sorts of gear including bikes, kayaks, fishing gear, outdoor furniture and the family barbeque.
As the aluminium DryDeck is tongue and groove Franco installed the deck easily despite it being the first time he had worked with the product.

Kevin visited our stand at the HIA Perth Home Show in March 2015. He was interested in our Grey capped composite decking and Deck Cell sub frame.
Matt contacted him after the home show offering him our fantastic home show special rate. Kevin was happy with the square metre price estimate, and later sent through his measurements.
Matt quoted him on 48m2 of NexGEN Aspen and Deck Cell sub frame, including all screws and concealed fixings. Our Aspen board is a modern choice, which is a little darker than the new Greystone colour we had recently added to the range. NexGEN Aspen can be highly varied in colour, usually greyish or olive brown, sometimes with streaks of blue, or purple and darker black streak.
Kevin arranged collection from our WA warehouse in Bayswater, and followed the NexGEN installation guidelines to a T and as you can see, he’s done an amazing job.
His deck sits at the same level as the rest of the garden. Our Deck Cell is an easy to install DIY friendly sub frame system that anyone can use in almost any surface, without the usual backbreaking pre-construction chores, measurements and expensive equipment.

They have a pool but nowhere to sit and enjoy the sunshine so they decided to clear a bit of garden and create a space whereby they could lounge beside the pool. Rosewood Capped Composite Decking
Joanne found NexGEN composite decking while searching through the home improvement pages in February 2015. Her carpenter had already started the framing work; Joanne just needed to find the perfect product to suit her needs. She required 56m2 of Decking for around her pool area.
Joanne hadn’t seen our product and requested samples. Matt from our Perth office sent Joanne a sample box and invited her to the Home Show held at the Perth Convention Centre in March.
Joanne came to see us at the home show and was so impressed with our product she placed her order the following day. Joanne chose our capped composite decking in the Rosewood colour. Rosewood is a popular choice with colours ranging from medium orange to darker reddish brown, sometimes with darker black streaks. Boards are 4.9 metres in length and 137mm wide. We dispatched Joanne’s order that week. Joanne is extremely happy with our product. She sent us the following review.

Grey Capped Composite Decking
Linda came across NexGEN Decking online while searching for Decking products to suit her needs. She liked the look of our composite decking and was very interested in NexGEN DeckCell sub frame.
She contacted our Sales representative Bryan, who sent Linda through all the information she required on our Composite Decking and DeckCell Sub frame.
Linda’s decking requirements were fairly unique. Her apartment is on the 8th floor right in the middle of Melbourne at Southbank. Her balcony is covered with a waterproof membrane, which means it can’t be penetrated with screws or bolts etc.
DeckCell was ideal for her application, as it doesn’t have to be attached to the existing concrete balcony. She was in a hurry to get the job done for a party coming up. Bryan priced the job verbally to Linda – supply only! Job is about 30m2. Linda struggled to find an installer, Bryan recommended Dean Walsh from Woodbridge Landscapes.
Linda had organised with the workers on an adjacent building site that they would lift the decking to her 8th floor balcony with the site crane.
Linda chose NexGEN capped composite decking in the Greystone colour. Greystone is a beautiful traditional colour with a range of medium grey tones throughout the board. It works well with many exterior colour schemes. The boards are 4.9m in length & 137mm in width.
We dispatched the goods and Dean arranged to meet the truck driver on site. Dean then came across a few obstacles.
After Linda advised the crane was not available one hour prior to close of business on the eve of the delivery, Dean spent the hour trying to organise a lightweight hoist but couldn’t sort out the problems with only 60 minutes notice. The next morning Dean made himself and two staff available and met the delivery at 7.00am at South Bank
He tested and measured the internal access and decided to load it onto a vehicle and drive it up 7 storeys then carry up the internal staircase to the 8th floor. Lucky it is flexible as otherwise it would not have made it around the hallways and walls of the staircase.
Dean appreciated the work and we can see he has done a great job.
Linda is very pleased with the deck as well as the service. As you can see from the finished pictures, NexGEN capped composite decking in Greystone looks beautiful on her veranda.

“The original timber deck around our swimming pool needed replacing after 12 years. The boards had suffered wet rot even with continual maintenance by the application of deck oils. Concerned by the quality of timber species available we started to consider other alternative products on the market. It was not until we visited the Brisbane Home Show where we saw the NexGEN composite decking board on display that we started to consider this as a possible replacement. The NexGEN representative (Roxanne) was friendly, approachable, and very knowledgeable and provided excellent information on the product.
