How to Choose a Deck Material That You Will Love

News

The worst part about building a new timber deck is knowing you’re going to have to re-do it all in a few years. It is frustrating to continually put time and money into a timber deck you’d rather just be enjoying. There are a few things to look for while purchasing your deck materials that can make life easier.

Will the Colour last?
Most decks are beautiful once finished, but within a year, the look can fade. It will be time to re-sand, stain, and seal. All wood, except manufactured products like composite wood — even pressure-treated wood — need to be sanded and stained. If you want it to last, you have to put in the time and some elbow grease. Our NexGEN decking has the beautiful, natural wood grain colour you want without the time-consuming maintenance you don’t want. With a 25 year stain and fade warranty, you won’t have to worry about sanding, staining, sealing or painting for a long time. An occasional wash with soap and water is all you need. Plus, no more of those pesky splinters to pick out of your kid’s feet.

Is it affordable?
Maybe you’re thinking, “This all sounds great, but I’ve heard composite decking is more expensive than treated wood decking.” You’re right. The initial cost is higher than traditional wood decking. That doesn’t mean it’s not affordable though. No maintenance means almost no money spent. Regular decks require a lot of money and time to look their best. The money you spend upfront is worth it for the money you’ll save in the long run.

Can I do it myself?
Are you still concerned about the cost? Maybe you just like to tackle projects on your own. We offer our products for the DIY crowd out there. We guide you along the way and be available to answer any questions you might have. You don’t need any special tools to handle our materials; it cuts the same as natural wood. Maybe you’d rather have it installed, our friendly, professional installers will be happy to install your deck for you.

Board sizes
With composite decking, you don’t have to fight irregular sizes, warped or twisted boards. Another advantage is that you have less waste because the every board is use-able.
